The history of the department can be traced back to 1993 when the college was established. The department owes its distinct identity to, then the Principal Amar Nayak who supported a lot to progress the department into next level. For a long period of time the eminent teachers like Mr. Gopal Chandra Sarma and Mr. Dhruba Lal Ghimire contributed a lot to consolidate the foundation of the department.

At present the department is run by the two Asstt. Prof. namely Mr. Chandra Prasad Ghimire and Dr. Rabi Chandra Adhikari. The present 160 students in Minor/Regular Course and 20 in Major/Honours Course has kept its glorious tradition intact. The department is able to produce many brilliant students who are now engaged in different government and non-government sectors. The department has in its credit a hand written magazine Parijat and a wall magazine Nikashi Prabah, Through a definite action plan the department is organizing many departmental and common activities from time to time for the students benefit.
